About

Hi, and welcome to “Is the Load Bearing?”–a question asked many times before entering a room demolition phase.   My name is Donna and this is where I will attempt to chronicle our home improvement adventures–the good, the bad, and the ugly–here in Sweet Home Alabama.  I am an accountant by day, (and have been for 20 years), but a DIY’er at heart.  Like many others, I started this blog as a way to hold myself accountable for all of those unfinished projects–and hopefully see them to completion before moving on to the next thing!

My partner-in-crime is my husband, Norm.  We have been married for 22 years and have an 18 year-old son, Jonathan–who is our pride and joy!  Norm works in the medical field, but is also a licensed electrician–which has come in handy on more than one occasion.  He is also an excellent carpenter and chef (which is his passion).  Me…I hate to cook, so it works out well!

We have owned two homes in our 22 years together, and both have been “fixer-uppers.”  Norm did the heavy carpentry, wiring, and tiling in our first house, but I decided to step up to the plate with our current house and pitch in.  I have learned a lot in the thirteen years we have lived here, and I am still learning.  I hope I can pass along a tip, or two.  I have learned so much from trial and error–but also from so many other talented bloggers like yourself!

Thanks for stopping by!
